People are always quick to point out obvious CGI shots in films, and in some cases they allow CGI to take them out of the movie experience. But these days a lot of the CGI on the screen may not be as obvious as you think. Directors like David Fincher have found ways to flawlessly integrate visual effects with live action shots, and in many cases use digital backgrounds to complete an aesthetic. Now Martin Scorsese is embracing the world of CGI and visual effects, as shown in THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. The fine folks at Brainstorm Digital were able to digitally add in incredibly convincing backgrounds (and foregrounds) in key scenes, and I’m betting a lot of folks didn’t even realize what they were seeing was enhanced.

It really is getting to the point where even the most experienced moviegoers can’t spot what is real and what is fake anymore. Oh sure, there are certain moments in WOLF where you can easily spot an effects shot, like the boat in a ocean storm, but the subtle and seamless enhancements with digital backgrounds are becoming the very definition of movie magic. Check out the video below to get a taste of just how amazing the FX work on the film was… especially the final shot, which is rather mind-blowing. Tell us what you think in the comments.

THE WOLF OF WALL STREET is now playing everywhere
