I’ve always loved John Turturro, and considering all the great directors he’s worked with it’s only natural to imagine some of that greatness was absorbed. Many folks may not realize he’s actually already directed four films – PASSIONE (2010), ROMANCE & CIGARETTES (2005), ILLUMINATA (1998) and MAC (1992), the latter three of which he also wrote. His fifth directorial effort is the new movie FADING GIGOLO, in which he stars alongside Woody Allen. The story finds Turturro becoming a moneymaking gigolo in the hands of his unlikely pimp, played by Allen. The stellar cast also includes Sofía Vergara, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber, Max Casella and Vanessa Paradis. It could be said this looks and feels like a Woody Allen film, and maybe that was the way Turturro imagined it when going after Allen for the cast, but I like what I’m seeing so far. Check out the new poster (above) and new trailer (below) and tell us your thoughts in the comments. It should also be noted that director Woody Allen will be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes this Sunday, January 12.

Fioravante decides to become a professional Don Juan as a way of making money to help his cash-strapped friend, Murray. With Murray acting as his “manager”, the duo quickly finds themselves caught up in the crosscurrents of love and money.

FADING GIGOLO opens April 18, 2014
