In a rather shocking bit of news tonight, it is being reported that actor Paul Walker died Saturday afternoon in a car crash in Valencia, California. Walker was 40 years old. TMZ broke the story, saying he was in a Porche that spun out of control and crashed, killing the actor in a fiery explosion. Walker’s representation confirmed his passing to Variety and other outlets, stating he was a passenger in a friend’s car during a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide, and that both were killed in the crash. Valencia is located just north of Los Angeles, according to TMZ. He was 40 years old. The official statement from the actor’s representation is as follows:

It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences.

Walker was shooting FAST & FURIOUS 7 with director James Wan, his sixth time to play the leading role of Brian O’ Conner. As this tragic event has just occurred, there’s no way to know how the studio will handle Walker’s passing within the film’s story, or if his scenes were even finished shooting. Walker was respected within the Hollywood community and had a likable reputation among fellow actors and filmmakers. I know a few journalists who have interacted with him, and they’ve always had good things to say. This is certainly an unexpected and heartbreaking event to report, and our thoughts and prayers are with Paul’s family and friends during this difficult time.

His co-star Tyrese Gibson posted this on Instagram, saying “My heart is hurting so bad no one can make me believe this is real Father God I pray that you send clarity over this cause I just don’t understand My heart hurts it’s broken no one can convince me that this is real…. Prayer warriors please pray real hard for his only child, his daughter and family… #HeartOfAnAngel13YrsFamilyForeverWeJustCelebreatedYour40thBirthday….. My God… My God… I can’t believe I’m writing this”:

And FAST & FURIOUS 7 director James Wan posted the following Tweet, which I think sums up what we’re all feeling:
