Jean-Claude Van Damme has been in the news lately with his rather impressive Volvo “Epic Split” commercial, but we haven’t seen a movie of his prominently promoted in a while. Fans might arguably suggest that TIMECOP (1994) was one of his best efforts. That film was directed by Peter Hyams, who the very next year teamed again with Van Damme for SUDDEN DEATH (1995). I guess we’ll see if the third time is the charm with ENEMIES CLOSER, for which a new poster has been released (see above, and click on it to see it full size). I’m a little confused by the trailer though, as while the poster has Van Damme front and center, the trailer makes Tom Everett Scott and Orlando Jones look more like the stars… and those two, in an action movie, are already kind of strange choices. But all that said, I like Peter Hyams movies, for the most part. OUTLAND is a favorite for me, and I really enjoy 2010… heck, I ever liked his two previous Van Damme efforts, so we’ll see how this comes out. There’s a lot of haters who would be quick to note that most of Jean-Claude’s movies lately have been cheap direct-to-video fare, but he’s certainly primed for a comeback. Think this could be it? Tell us in the comments below.

After a major shipment of drugs goes missing on the US-Canadian border, forest ranger and former Navy SEAL Henry is plunged into survival mode when the drug cartel forces him to help retrieve the downed package. Trapped in the wilderness with no communication to the outside world, Henry finds himself face to face with Clay, a man with a personal vendetta against Henry who has returned for retribution. Now, the two mortal enemies must make a choice: put aside their past and work together, or die alone at the hands of the drug runners, a ruthless gang who will stop at nothing to retrieve their lost cargo.

ENEMIES CLOSER opens December 4, 2013 in France, no U.S. release date as of this writing
