There are few eras more re-visualized and revisited on film than the 1970s, and perhaps with good reason – the clothes, the hair, the cars, the music… everything was so interesting, especially looking back on it, and AMERICAN HUSTLE appears to capture the period with perfection. Writer/director David O. Russell is wasting no time after his SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK Oscar win, delivering another powerhouse production that will very likely draw attention from Academy Award voters. He’s also reuniting with actors he knows well, including THE FIGHTER‘s Christian Bale and Amy Adams, and SILVER LININGS‘ Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Throw Jeremy Renner in there too, who by the looks of this trailer is a perfect fit for the early Scorsese era crime drama. The story revolves around Cooper as FBI agent Richie DiMaso, and Bale as con artist named Irving Rosenfeld. Both look at the top of their game here, and Lawrence and Adams seems to perfectly capture the sexy 70s woman. It’s co-written by Eric Singer (THE INTERNATIONAL) and Russell. This doesn’t look like a film for everyone, but I imagine those who are interested will have a look to savor. Personally, I can’t wait to see the end result. Check out the new trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments. But first, the posters:
Brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld, who along with his equally cunning British partner and lover Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for wild, unhinged FBI agent Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Carmen Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator is caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.
