This is one of those moments where writing a news post makes me feel old. The original DUMB & DUMBER came out in 1994… yes, 20 years ago. Many (or at least some) have wondered if the Farrelly Brothers would ever make an official sequel to it – there was a prequel in 2003 called DUMB AND DUMBERER: WHEN HARRY MET LLOYD that didn’t feature either of the first film’s leads, and focused on younger versions of the two main characters. Well now it looks like things are definitely underway with the official sequel, which is directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, and stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels once again as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. Carrey, Daniels and the official Twitter account for the film posted the first official photos from the set which you can see below. Daniels is actually fresh off his “Best Actor” Emmy win for THE NEWSROOM, and Carrey just recently appeared in both KICK-ASS 2 and THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE… he’s also soon to be seen in ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES and is rumored to appear in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. This DUMB & DUMBER sequel (appropriately titled DUMB AND DUMBER TO) will also feature Laurie Holden (THE WALKING DEAD, also previously starred with Carrey in THE MAJESTIC), Kathleen Turner, Rachel Melvin, and Cam Neely as “Sea Bass” (remember, from the first movie?). The first DUMB & DUMBER was released by New Line and had a worldwide gross of a quarter-billion dollars. This one is being released by Universal Pictures, who also released KICK-ASS 2 with Carrey. Are you excited to see more hijinks with Harry and Lloyd? Tell us in the comments below.
20 years after the dimwits set out on their first adventure, they head out in search of one of their long lost children in the hope of gaining a new kidney.
And just for grins, check out this video from just over a year ago in which Jeff Daniels said (pretty definitively) that they would not be making a sequel. Sadly this video is from TMZ, so you have to tolerate their incredibly annoying announcer guy and stupid flashy editing, but interesting nonetheless how things can change in just a year’s time.
