UPDATE: September 12, scroll down to see what is rumored to be a pitch video shown at Star Wars Celebration Europe II in Germany… though what’s funny is I was at Celebration Europe, and I don’t remember anyone talking about this. More as it develops.
If you’ve been hoping for a fourth installment in the JURASSIC PARK franchise (or even if you haven’t), you’re gonna get it within the next two years for sure, and now it has a title. Universal Pictures revealed the title JURASSIC WORLD along with a nifty new logo, and has given the project a release date of June 12, 2015. Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two films, will produce along with Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley. Right now all eyes are on Colin Trevorrow as director, who previously gave us the film festival favorite SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED. Trevorrow re-teams with SAFETY screenwriter Derek Connolly for JURASSIC WORLD, which is said to be shot in 3D. As packed as 2015 is already looking (AVENGERS 2, a new STAR WARS, INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, a FANTASTIC FOUR reboot, ANT-MAN, and TERMINATOR 5 are just a few of the biggies hitting that year), there’s surprisingly nothing else big scheduled to be released that weekend… so far. The rumored plot of the film (which might be validated by this title) has the story taking place back on Isla Nublar, and Jurassic Park is now a fully-developed theme park, like Sea World with dinosaurs. There was also talk that some of the dinos would actually be tamed so visitors would be safe (even around the more unpleasant ones, like the raptors and the T-Rex), and paleontologist Jack Horner (who is a consultant on the project) has stated there will be at least one new species revealed in the film. So just imagine an operating Jurassic Park, just like ol’ John Hammond always wanted, filled with families of tourists, and then the inevitable chaos begins… I’m intrigued. Are you excited to see more from this franchise? Tell us in the comments below!
