When I heard there was a new comedy coming out called NEIGHBORS with Seth Rogen and James Franco, I immediately assumed it must be a remake of the 1981 movie NEIGHBORS starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. I was wrong, thankfully, though you could say there’s some similarities. This new film features Rogen and Rose Byrne as a couple with a new baby moving into a new neighborhood. No sooner do they arrive than a college fraternity moves in next door, led by Efron. Things quickly get ugly and inappropriate for the innocent couple’s family lifestyle, and what ensues is a war of wits, with hilarious and shocking consequences. It looks like there’s fun to be had here, maybe a mixture of OLD SCHOOL and something like THE ‘BURBS, and it’s fun to see Efron breaking away from his Disney background and doing something bold. The Robert De Niro bit had me chuckling. Check out the promotional spot with Seth and Zac, and the new red band trailer (courtesy of MTV) below and tell us your thoughts in the comments. The cast includes Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne, Dave Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Lisa Kudrow, Jake Johnson, Carla Gallo, Ali Cobrin, Chasty Ballesteros, Ike Barinholtz, Craig Roberts and Jason Mantzoukas. It’s directed by Nicholas Stoller (who did GET HIM TO THE GREEK and THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT) and is written by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien.
