UPDATE – WE BELIEVE ALL OF THE SEATS WE HAD ALLOTTED HAVE BEEN TAKEN.
Bigfanboy.com has partnered with the USA Film Festival for their special sneak preview screening of IN A WORLD with writer/director/actor Lake Bell in attendance! We’re giving our Dallas readers a chance to win seats for this special event, and this one couldn’t be easier. First up, here’s all the info on the screening, the where and the when and the what:
Tuesday, August 13
8:00pm
Tickets available beginning at 7:15pm
Angelika Film Center Dallas
5321 E. Mockingbird Lane
Following the screening, writer/director/star Lake Bell will be doing a Q&A for the audience, hosted by Bigfanboy.com
Okay, now that you have all the necessary info, here’s how to get seats. You must RSVP in order to attend this screening, and for this particular promotion you must RSVP by phone. You can call the Festival at 214-821-6300 and tell them “I’m entering for seats in the Bigfanboy.com contest for IN A WORLD.” I’m told we’ve been allotted 50 seats total, so you’ll need to let them know if you need one or two (maximum of two per person who calls to RSVP). Once our allotment is used up, that’s it. If you’re not absolutely sure you can attend, please do not RSVP for this promotion. Reservations are not accepted via email. The Festival’s summer office hours are Monday-Thursday, 10:30am-5:30pm – they cannot accept reservations left on the answering machine, so leaving an RSVP that way will not work.
ABOUT THE FILM — Lake Bell (No Strings Attached, “Children’s Hospital”) stars in IN A WORLD…, a hilarious and heart-felt comedy full of sassy send-ups about a struggling vocal coach out to strike it big in the cutthroat world of movie-trailer voiceovers, only to find herself in direct competition with the industry’s reigning king — her father.
Written and directed by Bell, In a World… also stars Fred Melamed (A Serious Man), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine), Demetri Martin (“Important Things with Demetri Martin”), Michaela Watkins (“Enlightened”), Ken Marino (“Burning Love”), Nick Offerman (“Parks and Recreation”), Alexandra Holden (The Hot Chick), Tig Notaro (“The Sarah Silverman Program”) and a riotous turn by Eva Longoria (“Desperate Housewives”) playing herself.
Underachieving voice coach Carol Solomon (Lake Bell) not only lives in the house of her egotistical father, Sam Sotto (Sam Melamed), but also in the massive shadow he casts as the undisputed king of the vicious, male-dominated world of movie-trailer voice-overs. When Sam kicks her out to make room for his girlfriend, Jamie (Alexandra Holden), Carol lands her first voice-over gig with the help of charming sound engineer Louis (Demetri Martin), beating out industry bad boy Gustav Warner (Ken Marino) for the job. Proving her talent is no fluke, Carol soon lines up two more projects in quick succession and finds herself in the running to become the official voice of a blockbuster, female-centered movie “quadrilogy” entitled The Amazon Games. Threatened by his daughter’s rising star, Sam tries to discourage her while secretly pushing his reps to land him the gig instead. With her budding career and sense of self on the line, Carol faces a momentous decision: Whether to give in to her father’s bullying or go all out for the job and finally begin living life on her own terms.
IN A WORLD… is rated R and runs 93 mins. The film opens at the Angelika Film Center on August 23rd. Special thanks to Roadside Attractions for the preview screening.
ABOUT LAKE BELL — Lake Bell (Director, Writer, Producer, lead actor) won the Sundance 2013 Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award for her script, “In a World…,” and also was honored with the New Voices in Screenwriting Award at this year’s Nantucket Film Festival. Some of her memorable film performances include “No Strings Attached,” “It’s Complicated,” “What Happens in Vegas” and “Pride and Glory.”
Most recently, Bell co-starred with Katie Aselton and Kate Bosworth in the thriller “Black Rock,” which premiered at Sundance. She is currently in production on “Million Dollar Arm” opposite Jon Hamm and Alan Arkin. Bell also directed several episodes of Adult Swim’s Emmy Award®-winning comedy “Children’s Hospital,” on which she is a series regular.
