Matt Damon’s ELYSIUM gets an extended trailer. Earth is a terrible place to live.

2009’s DISTRICT 9 was a breath of fresh air for the science fiction fan.  The dark, gritty alien invasion movie that painted us as the bad guys was very well received by both critics and audiences alike.  Fast forward four years and we are finally getting director Neill Blomkamp’s follow up film ELYSIUM.  Much like DISTRICT 9, the film looks gritty, realistic and just plain awesome.

Elysium - Poster

Earth has become a bleak place to live.  Over populated.  Over abused.  Instead of trying to fix what was done, the super rich have left Earth to live in an orbiting paradise, Elysium.  Max (Matt Damon) may just be the one man who can bridge the gap between those fighting to survive and those that flourish but with Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her security team which includes the savage Kruger (Sharlto Copley who coincidentally had his acting debut in Blomkamp’s DISTRICT 9) standing in his way, equality of Earth and Elysium won’t be an easy victory.

So check out the extended trailer below and let us know what you think of the film.  Will you be there next week to see this one on opening day?

ELYSIUM is directed by Neill Blomkamp and stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, William Fichtner and Wagner Moura.

SYNOPSIS: In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet.  The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission, one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces,  but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

ELYSIUM is set to hit 2D and IMAX theaters on August 9, 2013.
