CARRIE has just unleashed a brand new banner for the upcoming remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz (KICK-ASS) as the titular character and Julianne Moore (CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE) as her overbearing mother. Remakes are a tricky thing. Some manage to stand on their own and become great (1983’s SCARFACE), some go for the shot-for-shot approach (1998’s PSYCHO) and others try and go back to the source material for a closer adaptation only to find themselves as forgettable (2012’s TOTAL RECALL). This new version of CARRIE seems like it is going to be pretty faithful to the original 1976 movie (directed by Brian de Palma and starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie) as well as the Stephen King novel from which it originated, but will the stellar cast be enough to give this one legs to stand on or will it simply come and go without being noticed much? It think it might be too early to tell, but I can say that there doesn’t seem to be the normal backlash to this remake as there are to some of the more recent ones like the aforementioned TOTAL RECALL and next year’s ROBOCOP (Both originally directed by Paul Verhoeven coincidentally).
Be sure to let us know what you think of the new banner as well as the film itself in the comments below.
