It’s hard to believe it’s already been 4 years since DISTRICT 9 came out in 2009, and safe to say many have wondered when we’d see more work from visionary director Neill Blomkamp. His new movie ELYSIUM stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster in a futuristic and grand story that essentially is a high tech class war. Blomkamp also didn’t forget about his D9 star Sharlto Copley, who this time around plays the bad guy. We showed you a trailer already, but the new 3-minute trailer (below) gives us a much better idea of what to expect, and it looks pretty damn cool. Video game experts may appreciate the pseudo-mech suit worn by Damon, and the style is very similar to what we’ve seen from Neill before. I like so much of what I’m seeing here, Foster playing the corporate baddie, Copley playing the psychotic henchman, and you have to admire Damon for taking on such a weird and non-glamorous role. We have to wait until August for ELYSIUM, but in the meantime check out the new poster (above) and new trailer (below) and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance bring equality to these worlds is Max, an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
