If you’re a film fan, one of the reasons to love the comic book convention circuit is it gives movie studios a reason to cut together new footage from some of the most anticipated movies out there. Case in point with director Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM. We’ve already posted a lot about it, but if you’re unfamiliar, the story is giant monsters attack the earth, so we build giant robots to fight them… pretty simple, but man does it look cool. Now there’s a new video called “Con footage” which shows a lot more of the robot vs. monster carnage, and gives us a new look at some of the characters in the film, even a brief shot of the great Ron Perlman! SYNOPSIS: From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ sci-fi action adventure “Pacific Rim.” When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes, a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
