THE GREAT GATSBY gets a great new trailer.

With just a little over a month till the release of Baz Luhrmann’s THE GREAT GATSBY, we have what is most likely that last theatrical trailer for the film.  The cinematography on this looks absolutely stunning and I think we are in for another brilliant performance from Mr. DiCaprio.  I find it interesting, odd even, that as good as this looks, Luhrmann decided to skip Oscar season by moving it from its original release date of December 25, 2012 to the summer of 2013 so that he could finish and fine-tune the 3D effects.  There’s no guaranteeing that it would have made an Oscar push, but it very well could have.  I guess we will have to wait just a little bit longer to find out.

The Great Gatsby - New Trailer Poster

Luhrmann has no issues with really capturing what old-fashioned cinema used to be like.  With his movies such as ROMEO + JULIET (in which he first directed Leo) and MOULIN ROUGE were about spectacle and beauty and a world just beyond that of our normal fare.  This one looks to be no different.  To get a sense of what I am speaking of, take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments below.

THE GREAT GATSBY is directed by Bax Luhrmann and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke and Amitabh Bachchan.

SYNOPSIS: ”The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

THE GREAT GATSBY is set to hit 2D and 3D theaters on May 10, 2013.
