I loved RED, not just as a comic book adaptation (which was pretty far removed from the source material) but as a fun take on action movie sterotypes. The ensemble of Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Karl Urban and Morgan Freeman was incredibly entertaining, and infinitely better than I think anyone expected it could be. Well they’re all back, minus Freeman and Urban (sadly), but joined by both Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones, in the appropriately titled RED 2. Oh, and Brian Cox is back from the first film, so let us not forget his endearing supporting role. Neal McDonough and Byung Hun Lee also join the group this time out. Handling directing chores this time out is Dean Parisot (GALAXY QUEST). Up until now we’ve only seen a few stills here and there, but today we get a full (and probably first of a few) trailer to give us a taste of what to expect from the sequel. Check it out below. Again, looks like the fun is there, and that’s what the first film exceeded at. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process.

RED 2 opens August 2, 2013
